Viscose: Everything you need to know about it

Viscose is a fabric that has been winning the hearts of both fashion designers and people who value comfort and style in everyday life for years. It combines naturalness, delicacy and versatility, which means that we can find it in light dresses, elegant shirts or even home textiles. But what exactly is viscose? Where does it come from, what properties does it have and why is it gaining popularity? In this article, we will take a look behind the scenes of the creation of this extraordinary fabric and discover all its secrets. Dive into the world of textiles with us and see what they can surprise you with!

What is viscose?

Viscose is an extremely popular fabric that perfectly combines the features of natural and synthetic materials. Known for its softness, airiness, and elegant appearance, viscose is often referred to as "rayon." This comparison has its historical confirmation. Viscose was created as a cheaper substitute for silk produced on a large scale, so that everyone could enjoy elegant fabrics that until now were only available to wealthy people. Viscose is made from plant materials, and thus it is pleasant to the skin and breathes well. This is one of the reasons why it works so well as a material for clothing and for any season! Thanks to its versatility, it can be found in light summer dresses, as well as in elegant blouses or durable home textiles. Its delicate shine and wearing comfort make it one of the favorite materials in fashion as well as in interior decoration.

Viscose – how is it made?

The process of creating viscose is a fascinating combination of nature and technology. Viscose is made from cellulose, a natural plant ingredient that most often comes from the wood of trees such as beech, pine or bamboo. The first stage is to obtain pulp from properly prepared raw material, which is subjected to the purification process. Next, the cellulose is subjected to chemical processes – immersed in special solutions that transform it into a dense, plastic mass. The next step is to convert this mass into thin fibers. This process involves pressing the obtained mass through special nozzles, where the fibers harden and gain their final form. After that, they are rinsed, stretched and dried to give them strength and the desired softness. In the meantime, they can also be dyed in many fancy colors in all the colors of the rainbow. The finished fibres can then be woven or knitted, depending on the purpose of the material. And that's it! This is how we obtain viscose.

Properties of viscose – why is it worth choosing this material?

Viscose is a material particularly popular in the clothing and textile industry. Below you will find the most important properties of this material:

  • Softness and delicacy – pleasant to the touch, perfect for sensitive skin.
  • Breathable – provides comfort even on warm days, allowing the skin to breathe.
  • Good moisture absorption: Helps keep you comfortable for a long time by absorbing sweat. Great for summer days!
  • Lightness: Makes viscose clothing airy and does not restrict movement. You will find it in the composition of summer dresses and tunics.
  • Elegant shine: Makes outfits and textiles take on a dignified, silky look.

Excellent color absorption capacity: Viscose comes in a wide range of colors. Its absorption allows for intense, long-lasting colours and expressive patterns.

Ability to drape: Viscose forms beautiful folds to form flowing cuts. It is perfect for both dresses and elegant curtains.

As you can see, there are many advantages. And are there any disadvantages? In the case of viscose, first of all, you should remember about proper care. It is a material that is quite sensitive to heat and excessive moisture, so it can shrink when washed at too high a temperature. Besides, viscose is without flaws!

What can be sewn from viscose? A guide for DIY lovers

  • summer dresses,
  • blouses and tunics,
  • Skirts
  • scarves and shawls,
  • pajamas and nightwear,
  • shirts for special occasions,
  • pillowcases.

Viscose – your friend for every season

Now let's talk a little about why it is worth investing in viscose clothes. Viscose is a material that works great all year round, regardless of the season. Its natural properties make it an extremely versatile and comfortable fabric in any situation. In summer, viscose acts as a second skin, providing breathability and breathability, so clothes made of this material keep you fresh and cool even on hot days. On the other hand, in the colder months, viscose remains warm and pleasant to the touch, and its ability to absorb moisture means that clothes made of it regulate body temperature well, keeping you comfortable and dry. In addition, viscose fits perfectly and looks great both in light summer dresses and in warmer sweaters or blouses for colder days. Thanks to its versatility, viscose can accompany you all year round, providing comfort and elegance regardless of the weather.

Purchase of materials – what to look for when choosing viscose?

Buying viscose may seem simple, but it is worth paying attention to a few key aspects to choose a material that will meet your expectations. First of all, check the composition of the fabric – viscose can come in different variants, so make sure that the material you buy is real viscose, not its synthetic substitute. The thickness and weight of viscose is another important aspect. Thinner viscose will be perfect for summer dresses, blouses or light scarves, while thicker versions will work well on colder days, e.g. for winter dresses or elegant shirts. Check the elasticity of the material. Although viscose is not elastic on its own, it can be enriched with the addition of elastane. Another thing to pay attention to is the finish of the fabric. Viscose can be smooth, matte or have a subtle shine. The choice of finish depends on the effect you want to achieve. The color and pattern of viscose are also important, because this material beautifully accepts paints and prints, and patterns can look extremely impressive on it. And finally – choose fabrics from proven suppliers to make sewing a real pleasure!
